Data Interpretation Practice Problems for SBI PO Bank Exams 2017-18

1. Study the following graph carefully and answer the questions given below.

Company A= Green, Company B = Red, Company C= Blue.

(1.1) In which of the following years, the importance by company A was exactly equal to average made by over the given years?
(a)  1992
(b)  1993
(c)  1994
(d) 1995
(e)  None of these.
Solution:
Average imports made by company A = (30+50+60+40+70+60+75)/7=385/7=55
In none of the given years, the imports are exactly equal to 55 (crores).
Hence the answer is (e).

(1.2) In which of the following years was the difference between the imports made by company B and C the maximum?
(a)  1995
(b) 1994
(c)  1991
(d) 1993
(e)  None of these.

Answer: By visual inspection,  it is clear that 1993 is the desired year (as the distance between two points is the maximum in 1993.)

(1.3) In which of the following years were the imports made by the company ‘A’ exactly half of the total imports made by company B and C together in that year?
(a) 1992 only
(b) 1993 only
(c)  1992 and 1993
(d)  1995 only
(e) None of these.

Explanation:
By mental observation ( as 50 = 40+60/2). 1992 only is the desired year. You don’t need any calculation. See the year where the point of A lies exactly in the middle of points of B and C.

(1.4) What was the percentage increase in Imports by company B from 1992 to 1993?
(a) 10
(b)  25
(c)  40
(d) 20
(e) None of these.
Solution:  percentage increase  = [(final -initial) /initial ]* 100
=[50 – 40/40]* 100 = 25%.

(1.5) In which of the following years were the total imports made by all the three companies together with the maximum?
(a) 1996 only
(b) 1997 only
(c) 1995 only
(d) 1995 and 1997 only
(e) None of these.
Solution: the total imports (in crores) made by all the three companies together: From the heights of the points we observe that the total heights of three points is the maximum withers in 1995, but to be sure we find actual values for the two years.
In 1995 = 70+80+85 = 235. In 1997 = 75+79+85 =230.clearly, 1995 is the desired year

2. Data given below are regarding the number of students who have appeared/passed in a certificate exam from five schools in the year 2005.

2.1) The number of students who appeared for the exam from school D was what percent more than that who appeared from school B?

  1. 50
  2. 30
  3. 20
  4. 10
  5. 25.

Solution:
No. of Students appeared from school D = 180
No. of Students appeared from school B = 150
Required percentage = [( 180 -150)/ 150 ] * 100
= 30/150   * 100
= 1/5  * 100  =  20%

2.2 ) Out of all the given schools, for which school was the number of students failing at the exam maximum ?

  1. C
  2. E
  3. D
  4. B
  5. A

Solution: Failed students = Appeared – Passed.
No of students failed
School A = 250 -200 = 50.
School B = 150 – 130 = 20.
School C = 240 -210 = 30.
School D = 180 – 120 = 60.
School E = 200 – 150 = 50.

(250 ×112) /100  = 280.

  1. 11:7
  2. 13:9
  3. 11:8
  4. 11:9
  5. 4:3

Solution: (240 + 200): (210 + 150) = 440:360 =11: 9
