**Study the following graph carefully to answer the given questions.**

1.1) What was the percentage decrease in the number of employees in company B in the year 2008 as compared to the previous year?

(A) 22 (B) 20.5 (C) 12.5 (D) 23.5

Solution:

(40 – 35)/40 = 1/8 = 12.5

Explanation:

We know the formula, Percentage Change = ± [(New value –Old value)/Old value]
Solve this mentally we get 1/8 and

We remember 1/8 is nothing but 12.5.

1.2) What was the approximate average number of employees in company ‘C ‘ over all the years together?

(A) 32900 (B) 33335 **(C) 31660** (D) 32660

Solution:

190/6 = 31.66 thousand = 31660

Add values without using paper by seeing the chart and divide by 6.we can do this also without paper and pen.

1.3) What is the respective ratio between the number of employees in company-B in the year 2005 and the no. of employees in company C in the year 2007?

(A) 5 : 4 (B) 4:5 **(C) 2:5** (D) None of these.

1.3) Total number of employees in Company-A over all the years together was approximately what percent of the total number of employees in Company-C in the years 2007 and 2008 together?

(A) 210 (B) 225 (C) 220 (D) 235 (5) 245

Solution:

[(15+30+45+25+50+45)/ (50+40)] = 210/90 = 21/9 = 235.

Explanation: Use Addition trick and Division trick to solve this sort of question in less time.

1.4) If 30% of the total number of employees in the year 2006 in all the companies together was female. What was the total number of employees in the same year in all the companies together?

(A) 9 thousand (B) 4.9 lakhs (C) 48000 (D) 4.8 lakhs (E) None of these.

Sol:

Total Employees in 2006 = (30 + 15 + 25) =70

Female Employees = (70) × 3/10 = 21

Male Employees = 70 – 21 = 49 i.e. 49000

2.1) The Total number of employees in organization C is approximately what percent of total no. of employees in organization D?

(1) 147 (2) 279 (3) 312 (4) 207 (5) 183.

Solution:

31/ 15 = 207

Explanation: 100% of 15 = 15

200% of 15 = 30

10% of 15 = 1.5 i.e. 30 + 1 = 200% + 7% (approx.) = 207

Note: By practice we can able to do these calculations without using pen.

2.2) What is the total no. of males in all organization together?

Sol:

Average percentage of males = (30 + 55 + 60 + 40 +25) / 5 = 210 / 5 = 42%

- 42/100 × 35000
- 14700

2.3) What is the total number of males in organization A & C together?

Sol:

(18/ 100 × 30/100 + 31/100 × 60/100) × 35000

=> (540 + 1860) × 3.5

=> 2400 × 3.5

=> 240 × 35

=> 8400

2.4) What is the number of females in organization D?

(1) 3855 (2) 3250 (3) 3300 (4) 3675 (5) None of these

Solution:

15 × 60 × 3.5 = 3150.

3. Study the given graph where the marks of graduate students have given in 3 subjects – Maths, Accounts & Statistics. With the analysis of this data, we have to answer the questions.

- What is the respective ratio of A’s marks in maths to B’s marks in maths?

Solution: 40: 65

=> 8 : 13

- What are the average marks obtained by D? (1) 38 (2) 43 (3) 50 (4) 50 (5) 54

Explanation: By seeing the chart itself we came to know the Avg. is between 40 & 45. Choose the right answer from the given options.

3) What is C’s overall approx? percentage?

4) What is the difference between the total marks obtained by A & total marks obtained by B?
